Happy, happy New Year!
If you are like me you cannot wait to let go of 2009 and all the garbage that came with it (and did there not seem to be more in 2009 then any other year???) then take today to reflect and let go of everything negative and upsetting and just down right sucky from 2009 and get ready for the awesome year of 2010.
I let go of the old by throwing stuff out. I really do. I go through my closets and cupboards and just toss away this and that, letting God and the universe know I am moving on. It is so liberating!
And last night just after midnight I penned my New Years Plan, and I thought you might also enjoy it. So, right from the first page of my 2010 journal, here you go:
20-10 Will Be...
A year of happy surprises.
A year of fun times.
A year of laughter and smiles.
A year of good times and good things.
A year of really living in the moment.
A year of doing the best I can- one decision at a time. And taking it easy on myself when I make a decision that is not the best for me.
A year of hugs and dancing- yes, at the same time whenever possible.
A year of really trusting God to provide for me as He always has.
A year of eating fantastically yummy and pure foods.
A year of implementing all the lessons I learned from 2009, including the most powerful lessons I have ever come across from the books "A New Earth", "You Can Heal Your Life", "Alive Raw Foods: Your Natural Diet" and "Never Be Sick Again".
A year of positive affirmations and treating myself right.
A year of letting go of the baggage I had held on to for so long.
A year of letting go of stereo types and others views on how I should be living.
A year of spending more time with loved ones, and less time with those that are not on that list.
A year of gratefulness, expecting the best God has to offer and smiling as much as possible.
A year unlike any other...
Once again, HAPPY NEW YEAR! YEAH!!

How Coaches Offend Clients (And How Not To)
1. Bringing up fees to early during the first session. No one
wants to feel like you only see dollar signs when you look at them, and
announcing your fees before you have even exchanged pleasantries is
the fastest way to make your potential client feel undervalued. The
correct time to mention fees would be at the end of your first free
session together, after you have gotten to know your them and how
coaching could help them. The exception to this rule is if the client is
the one who brings it up, then do not stall as you are worth every
penny. Remember: To charge too little makes your services and skills
seem cheap.
2. Being late for a call. If you have a session scheduled, show up
and be in “coach mode” (calm, centered and ready to listen.)
3. Not following up with a card, call or email after they have
signed on with you. Following up will help your client feel valued as
a client. Even a simple “glad we will be working together” is all that is
needed.
4. Over-advising. Everywhere people turn advice is being given out-
generally unwarranted and unwanted. Thus people have naturally
developed a defence system that goes up when advice (no matter how
good) is coming their way that has not been asked for. To avoid this
pitfall, ask insightful questions that will lead your clients to the self
discovery of the advice they need.
5. Not listening. This is the no-no of coaching. Misunderstanding
your client may often also be interpreted as not listening.
There are two steps to take to avoid this:
Step 1: Concentrate on what the client is saying not on what you are
going to say next.
Step 2: Repeat and reiterate what your client has just told you back to
the client. This ensures you are both on the same page.
6. The client wants a “quick fix solution” from you and is upset
they are not getting one. Avoid this by explaining during your first
session exactly what coaching is and is not. Emphasize the self-
discovery aspect of coaching.
7. They do not feel valued as a client. Avoid this by answering
emails and returning their calls in a timely manner and rereading the
notes from their last session with you before engaging in a
conversation with them (this shows them you remember who they are
and what goals they are working on).

3 Places to Find Clients Without a Lot of Work
1. Don't ignore your own "Acres of diamonds" - ask your existing clients to refer some of their family, friends and associates to you. If they're happy with your service they will be more than happy to do it and your job will be much easier since they are coming recommended by someone they trust.
2. Former employers and associates in other fields can be a great resource for finding new business. Give them a call, or better yet grab a bite with them and catch up with them but don't be shy to ask for referrals!
3. Ask your current prospects who they know that may need your products or services. It may sound odd at first but give it a try and your opinion may quickly change. Especially if you've gone out of your way to help them.
Remember that most good people generally enjoy helping others when you make it easy for them. When you ask the people inside your circle of influence to help you by referring new clients, you're helping yourself, you're helping them by enabling them to help you, and you're helping the potential clients by providing a quality product or service that they need.

5 Questions Couples Need to Ask Themselves Prior to Making a Commitment
Asking questions is sometimes tough, but it is always for the best.
Keep in mind when answering these questions that disagreements do not necessarily mean that the relationship won’t work out. However, this is something only you and your partner can decide.
Do we want children?
Where do we see ourselves professionally in 5 years?
What hobbies do we have in common?
Is my partner true to their word?
Do I love this person as they are or as I hope they will be?

Creating a Blog- Step by Step Directions (Article)
A blog is a fantastic way to gain new website visitors.
This is because a blog generally contains recently updated information (unlike websites that are rarely updated more then bi-annually) and search engines love that. Thus when a potential visitor who is interested in (say for example) wanting to lose weight, visits Google.com and enters “how to lose weight” or “weight loss help” into the search box will very often come across a link to a recent blog entry on that very topic.
The chances that an interested person will learn about your services through your blog is much higher then through your website alone as like I mentioned above, blogs have the most current information and search engines love current information.
However, keep in mind that a blog is no substitute for a website as your services, biography and general information cannot be listed on a blog and cannot be accessed as easily as they can be from a website. Hence the fact that both a website and a blog are considered necessary tools for every coach.
How to Get a Blog
Step 1: Choose the focus of your blog. If you are certified in a few different areas (life coaching, relationship coaching, children’s coaching for example) choose only one area per blog. You are able to have more then one blog (and blogs are free) but the content will be considered more respectable if it is focused on one area per blog.
Step 2: Name your blog appropriately. When naming your blog, list exactly what it is you will be focussing on. This will make your blog easier to locate for people. Let me put it this way, if you were looking for a blog on Christian coaching, which link would you be more likely to click on: “StargazingIntoHeaven.blogspot.com” or “Christian-Coaching.blogspot.com”?
Choose a few different versions of the name in case one is already taken. You will know if the name is available when you register your blog (step 2).
Step 3: Set up your blog. Now that you have a few possible names for your blog selected, it is time to begin the process of setting up your blog. HAVE PATEINECE. Setting up your blog will take some time and some clicking of buttons to learn how everything works. I will walk you through the process as best I can, but some things will just have to be learned on your own. And they will be, but like all new skills this one will also require some attention and patience until you get the hang of it.
Visit www.blogspot.com and follow the directions. Start by clicking the large orange link that says “Create a Blog”.
Step 4: Get familiar with blogging. Once you have registered your blog (named it), confirm your email address and log in. Look at the very top of the page when in blogger and click on “Dasboard”. This is where the master list of your blogs (if you have more then one- there is no limit) will be listed.
From here you can very easily click “New Post” to create a new entry or “Settings” to change the look and text on your blog. Once again, trial and error will be your best bet here when trying to learn how to navigate your blog.
Make sure you upload a photo as this will create rapport with your readers. And complete the profile information as well.
Everything but the name of your blog can be changed so have no fear if you make an error in spelling or such. It can almost all be undone.
General FAQ About Blogs
Is my blog online right away- as soon as I create it?
Yes. As soon as your blog is created (named) it is visible online.
How often should I put a new entry in?
Putting an entry online (called “posting”) should be done as often as possible. I would aim for no less then once a week. The key is consistency. New information equals a higher search engine ranking which equals more blog visitors and “followers” and more visitors to your website.
What should I “blog” about?
You should blog (also known as “posting” or “blogging”) about anything that would be a topic of interest for someone interested in your field of expertise.
Keep your entries (posts) short and sweet as people tend to get bored if there is an abundance of information.
The following may give you some ideas (as well, through the Become a Coach program PLR rights to blog entries are given out to help you get started):
Top 5 Ways to Improve Your Relationship Today
The Number One Error People Make When Trying to Lose Weight
Why You Need a Life Coach
The Number One Way a Life Coach Will Help You
When I have created a new entry who should I tell?
Whenever I create a new blog entry I let everyone online know about it. I let all my Facebook contacts, mySpace contacts and I even twitter about it.
Which reminds me- I would love you to add me as a friend on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/coachmackenzie22 and on twitter www.twitter.com/coachmackenzie

Steps to Turning Your Life Around- A Christian Perspective
We have all been there- somewhere we do not want to be and know we should not be. I am no exception.
Whether it is in a job that drains us emotionally, a relationship that is bad for us or if we just have a habit that we know we should be “breaking” permeate, the solution is same: Start from the inside and work your way out.
Below is a list of steps that you should be taking in order to begin the change that needs to occur in your life.
These steps were designed to be done over a period of 14 to 16 days- about one per day.
Step 1: Start by giving yourself credit. You are already making progress in changing the direction your life is heading. Reading these steps is proof of that.
Step 2: Do not push yourself too hard or beat yourself up for being in a bad or less then desirable scenario. Doing that will get you nowhere. Although it will not be instantaneous, have faith as your life will change (I promise).
Step 3: Develop a support team. Start by creating a list of people (and services) in your life or in your community that could be of some assistance to you during this time.
Look for no non-sense, honest, understanding and non-judgemental people to surround yourself with. Having someone on your team who has been where you are and made the change you want to would be ideal.
Now reach out and connect. This is a big step and you will be glad you did it (I was glad I did).
Step 4: Think of a special place in your area where you feel relaxed. If you do not have one, try the following places: Church, library, woods or beach - even your car.
Make a commitment to yourself to spend sometime there. Use this time solely for you. Treating yourself good is also a way to honor God as He made you and thus you are intrinsically connected to Him. Read, pray, or just express thanks to God. Even if you feel you have nothing to thank God for start with thanking Him for this time).
This time is crucial to developing your spiritual connectedness and creating a good foundation for your life from which all else good will flow (trust me on this).
Step 5: Write down exactly how you would like your life to be. Do it piece by piece if you have to, but do it. Not having a “vision” for your life is like not having an internal compass- you just live aimlessly.
Step 6: Make a list of all your good qualities. Make this an honest assessment of who you are. Save it and re-read it periodically.
Step 7: Increase your self esteem. The number one way to create lasting change is to increase your self worth.
Without a doubt the most effective way to do this is by repeating affirmations. This will change your mind’s wiring (also referred to as your neuro linguistic programming.) And following your increase in self worth your life will absolutely, 100% follow.
Sample affirmations:
“I love myself.”
“I am whole.”
“I approve of myself.”
Repeat these affirmations as often as you can. Aim for 100 times each day. The more you do this, the faster your life will change.
Step 8: Understand that sometimes in order for good to come, bad may have to make its way through your life first. For example, you may lose a part time job causing you to gain a full time career somewhere else. This is just the way God works.
Step 9: Read the Bible. Start with Luke. That was where I started. Read one passage per day. You will be amazed at the wisdom you learn and the security you feel knowing God really will take care of all- if you allow Him to.
Step 10: Let it go. Lay whatever your big, no good and pressing problem is today that you feel you cannot solve on your Father’s shoulder’s. Trust Him to figure it out and let you know.
Step 11: Make a list of nice things to do for yourself. Things that you enjoy. Strive to do one per day.
Step 12: Although you should only go at a pace that works for you, you should still have a to-do list. Not having a to-do list is like (once again) not having a compass. Start with things you know you will be able to complete (like repeating your affirmations.)
Step 13: Forgive those who have harmed you. It was wrong what they did, but they must have had a messed up life themselves to do what has been done. As awful as it was, what happened to you may have happened because it was meant to, even if you do not know why yet. You need to forgive them to find peace yourself. Keep in mind that forgiving does not mean continuing to associate with them if they are bad for you.
Step 14: Forgive yourself. For whatever you feel guilty or bad about. Then confess to someone and to God. This is one of the first steps to having God forgive you. Knowing what you did was wrong, and then confessing such is an important step to self forgiveness and forgiveness from God. Follow this up with deciding how to make amends to those you have harmed.
Step 15: Be realistic. If you need therapy or a support group or a coach (depending on your situation) get one.
Step 16: Smile. That’s it for step 16- just smile.

How to Become a Coach
The first step to becoming a coach is to understand what coaching is.
What is Coaching?
Coaching is helping someone go from the life they have- no matter what their current circumstances- to the life they want, the life they deserve.
This means that you need to understand how the human mind operates and what you, as a coach, must do or say to get the changes to occur in your client’s life.
What Does The Average Day for a Coach Consist of?
The average coaches day is very relaxed and yet exciting. Most coaches work from home (although quite a few coaches use their coaching training and certification to work in large companies) and thus they have ample time to take care of themselves and put the needs of their family’s first. Coaches design their own day but it may look something like this:
8:00- 9:00 Meditate and Exercise
10:00- 10:30 Coaching Call
10:30- 11:00 Coaching Call
11:00- 2:00 Lunch and “Free Time”
2:00-2:30 Coaching Call
3:00-3:30 New Client Session
“Coaching Call” refers to the amount of time spent coaching a client. The client calls you from their place of convenience (work or home which ever works best for them) and the coaching call is conducted.
“New Client Session” refers to a first time session with a potential new client.
Through your training you will learn what is discussed though both coaching call and the new client session.
How Much Do Coaches Earn?
The Most recent ICF study indicates that the average North American full time coach earns more then $80,000 annually (USD).
What Are Some of the Ways I will Earn Money as a Coach?
We train coaches to earn money in a variety of methods that include: Motivational and life changing audio recordings (we have software for all students), book sales, key note speaking, seminars and of course coaching (both group coaching, in person coaching and phone coaching).
Do I need Training?
You need professional training for a variety of reasons:
1. Clients and companies want to know you are certified.
2. You need to know how the human mind operates. What stops clients from attaining goals? What is the easiest and most effective ways to attain goals? These are just some of the questions that as a coach you need to know the answer to.
3. You need to learn how others made the switch from their current job to their career as a coach.
4. You should always have a supportive network of people who have been where you are (your instructor and mentor) and who are making the career change to coaching just as you are.
We invite you to contact us with any questions you may have about coaching others or our programs.
